My daughter and friend rode their scooters for most of the evening. Today, I contemplated turning on the air conditioner in my car...where is winter? Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy scraping my car of snow and ice in the morning however, if this is supposed to be winter, let it be winter - my body is all wigged out trying to make heads or tails of the weather.

Mango?

Well maybe watermelon isn't the only fruit that helps with dehydration. This past weekend I did it again. It all started when I was chosen to man the chicken tenders and fries.

My daughter played in a huge soccer tournament this past weekend and as a member of the league, It was my responsibility to help with the event. Her team was responsible for running the selling of food. When I arrived for my shift at 10:45 AM, it was a madhouse. After about a half an hour of manning the warmer to keep inventory of what we had and what we needed so that the cooks can know how fast they needed to get the food out, the person frying the fries and the chicken tenders was done with his shift so I took his place. For the next 2 hours I fried potatoes and chicken in a couple of vats of hot oil - I was sweating like a dog. I didn't realize that I was completely dehydrated by the end of my shift. Before my daughters game, I sweated some more as I worked with the soccer ball on juggling skills. As I stood and watched my daughter play, I felt the headache first then later, the nausea. During her second game I was toast. I tried to drink Gatorade but after I was done, I felt worse. I finally realized what was going on - that I was dehydrated but by then it was too late. I knew I needed watermelon but unfortunately I was too far gone to get myself to the nearest grocery store to buy it - I went straight home. I looked in the fridge and found a mango. I cut it up, ate about half and laid down. About an hour later both the headache and the nausea was gone.

Watermelon: The Cure for Dehydration

One day I came home from playing soccer in 90 degree weather and was exhausted. I had a massive headache and basically all I wanted to do was sit and drink. I went to the fridge and found a watermelon so I cut it open and took a bite...it was the best watermelon I had ever tasted - it was sweet, cold and juicy. Within minutes my headache was gone - I could not believe it. I am not prescribing that everyone who is dehydrated to run to the nearest farmers market and buy a watermelon however, it wouldn't hurt to try.

RU Lost

Just downloaded this killer App that I highly recommend for all Rutgers students.
